China visa transfer to new passport

A common question!

If you have a valid Chinese visa and need to transfer it to a new passport, you can follow these steps:

Before applying:

  1. Check the validity of your current visa: Make sure your current visa is still valid and has not expired.
  2. Check the validity of your new passport: Ensure your new passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned departure date from China.

Application process:

  1. Fill out the application form: Download and complete the "Visa Application Form for Foreigners" (also known as the "V.2019") from the Chinese Embassy or Consulate's website. You can also obtain the form at the embassy or consulate in person.
  2. Attach the required documents: Submit the following documents:
    • Your current valid Chinese visa (a copy is acceptable)
    • Your new passport (original and a copy)
    • A completed and signed application form
    • One recent passport-sized photo
  3. Submit the application: Take the completed application form and required documents to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in person. You can also use a third-party visa application service, such as Visa Application Service Center (VASC), if available in your area.
  4. Pay the application fee: The fee for a visa transfer is usually around RMB 30-50 (around USD 4-7), depending on the embassy or consulate.
  5. Wait for the result: The embassy or consulate will review your application and notify you of the result. If approved, they will stamp your new passport with the same visa details as your current passport.

Tips:

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully transfer your Chinese visa to your new passport.
