Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party has won a majority government in the Canadian federal election, according to preliminary results.
With 338 seats in the House of Commons, the Liberal Party has secured 157 seats, while the Conservative Party has won 119 seats. The New Democratic Party (NDP) has won 24 seats, and the Bloc Québécois has won 32 seats.
Justin Trudeau, the 49-year-old leader of the Liberal Party, will serve a second term as Prime Minister of Canada. He was first elected in 2015, defeating Stephen Harper's Conservative Party.
The election was held on October 21, 2019, with Canadians voting on a range of issues, including healthcare, education, climate change, and the economy.
Trudeau's campaign focused on issues such as climate action, affordable housing, and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. He also faced criticism over his handling of a number of controversies, including the SNC-Lavalin affair and his government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The results are subject to change as more votes are counted, but at this point, it appears that the Liberal Party has secured a majority government.
Here are the preliminary results:
- Liberal Party: 157 seats
- Conservative Party: 119 seats
- New Democratic Party (NDP): 24 seats
- Bloc Québécois: 32 seats
- Green Party: 3 seats
- People's Party of Canada: 1 seat
We will continue to monitor the results and provide updates as more information becomes available.
