Buhari new service chiefs

On January 26, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari announced the appointment of new Service Chiefs for the Nigerian Armed Forces. The new Service Chiefs are:

  1. Major General Leo Irabor - Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)

    • Commissioned: 1985
    • Previous role: Chief of Defence Intelligence
  2. Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo - Chief of Naval Staff (CNS)
    • Born: 1964
    • Commissioned: 1984
    • Previous role: Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command
  3. Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao - Chief of Air Staff (CAS)
    • Born: 1969
    • Commissioned: 1991
    • Previous role: Air Officer Commanding Training Command
  4. Major General Ibrahim Attahiru - Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
    • Born: 1966
    • Commissioned: 1986
    • Previous role: General Officer Commanding 3rd Armoured Division

The outgoing Service Chiefs were:

  1. General Abayomi Olonisakin - Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)
  2. Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas - Chief of Naval Staff (CNS)
  3. Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar - Chief of Air Staff (CAS)
  4. Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai - Chief of Army Staff (COAS)

The new Service Chiefs have been tasked with addressing various security challenges facing the country, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality.
