On January 26, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari announced the appointment of new Service Chiefs for the Nigerian Armed Forces. The new Service Chiefs are:

- Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo - Chief of Naval Staff (CNS)
- Born: 1964
- Commissioned: 1984
- Previous role: Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command
- Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao - Chief of Air Staff (CAS)
- Born: 1969
- Commissioned: 1991
- Previous role: Air Officer Commanding Training Command
- Major General Ibrahim Attahiru - Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
- Born: 1966
- Commissioned: 1986
- Previous role: General Officer Commanding 3rd Armoured Division
The outgoing Service Chiefs were:

The new Service Chiefs have been tasked with addressing various security challenges facing the country, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality.
