Boys in the band new kids on the block
A blast from the past!
The New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) were a boy band that rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The group consisted of five members:
- Donnie Wahlberg (born August 17, 1969) - lead vocals, songwriting
- Danny Wood (born October 13, 1969) - vocals, songwriting
- Jordan Knight (born May 29, 1970) - lead vocals, songwriting
- Jonathan Knight (born November 29, 1968) - vocals
- Joey McIntyre (born December 31, 1972) - vocals, songwriting
The group was formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1984 and was originally called "Nynuk." They were discovered by music producer and songwriter Maurice Starr, who helped them secure a record deal with Columbia Records.
NKOTB's music style was a blend of pop, rock, and R&B, with catchy harmonies and energetic performances. They released their debut album, "New Kids on the Block," in 1986, which was a moderate success. However, it was their second album, "Hangin' Tough," released in 1988, that catapulted them to international stardom.
The group's popularity peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with hits like "Hangin' Tough," "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," "Step by Step," and "Tonight." They were known for their high-energy live performances, which often featured elaborate choreography and pyrotechnics.
NKOTB's impact on popular culture was significant, with a devoted fan base known as the "Blockheads." They were one of the first boy bands to achieve widespread success, paving the way for future groups like Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync.
The group went on hiatus in the mid-1990s, but reunited in 2008 and has since released several new albums and embarked on several world tours. In 2013, they launched a co-headlining tour with the Backstreet Boys, which became one of the highest-grossing tours of the year.
NKOTB's legacy continues to inspire new generations of music fans, and their music remains a staple of 80s and 90s nostalgia.
