Biblical psalms for new moth blessings
What a wonderful idea! Here are some biblical psalms that can be used for new month blessings:
For the first month (Nisan/Abib)
- Psalm 126: "When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them.' The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy."
- Psalm 118:1-2, 14-15, 21-23 - "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever! Let Israel declare, 'His love endures forever.'... The Lord is my strength and my salvation; he has become my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord is my strength and my salvation—what can mere mortals do to me?... The Lord has become my salvation; in the Lord I sing praise to the Lord, the greatness of our God."
For the second month (Iyyar)
- Psalm 65:1-4 - "Praise awaits you, God, in Zion; to you our vows will be fulfilled. You who answer prayer, to you all people will come. When we were overwhelmed by sins, you atoned for our transgressions. Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts! We are filled with the good things of your house, with the joys of your holy presence."
- Psalm 67:1-3 - "May God be gracious to us and bless us; may his face shine upon us. May your ways be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May people praise you, God, forever and ever; may your joy be in our hearts."
For the third month (Sivan)
- Psalm 100:1-5 - "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing! Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name."
- Psalm 103:1-5 - "Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
For the fourth month (Tamuz)
- Psalm 34:1-10 - "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear it and rejoice. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles."
- Psalm 138:1-3 - "I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; before the gods I will sing your praise. I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise your name for your love and your faithfulness, for you have exalted above all things your name and your word. On the day I called, you answered me; you strengthened me and gave me courage."
For the fifth month (Av)
- Psalm 16:1-11 - "Preserve me, God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the Lord, 'You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.' You are my hiding place and my shield; I put my hope in your word. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distress! Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your steadfast love. Let me not be put to shame, Lord, for I have called out to you. Let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave. No, Lord, do not delay your mercy."
For the sixth month (Elul)
- Psalm 51:1-19 - "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."
- Psalm 130:1-8 - "Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord; Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption."
For the seventh month (Tishrei)
- Psalm 126:1-6 - "When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, 'The Lord has done great things for them.' The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, Lord, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Whoever goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them."
- Psalm 145:1-5 - "I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will be ever in my mouth. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together! I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed."
