At what age do new borns hear
Newborn babies are able to hear sounds and noises from the moment they are born. In fact, research suggests that babies can detect sounds as early as 24 weeks gestation, while still in the womb!
After birth, newborn babies are able to hear a wide range of sounds, including:
- High-pitched sounds: Babies can detect high-pitched sounds, such as a mother's voice, from around 1-2 weeks old.
- Low-pitched sounds: Babies can detect low-pitched sounds, such as a father's voice, from around 2-3 weeks old.
- Music and melodies: Babies can recognize and respond to music and melodies from around 2-3 months old.
- Speech and language: Babies can start to recognize and respond to speech and language from around 4-6 months old.
Here are some general guidelines on when newborns can hear different types of sounds:
- 1-2 weeks old: High-pitched sounds, such as a mother's voice
- 2-3 weeks old: Low-pitched sounds, such as a father's voice
- 2-3 months old: Music and melodies
- 4-6 months old: Speech and language
- 6-9 months old: Ability to distinguish between different sounds and words
Keep in mind that every baby develops at their own pace, and some may be able to hear and respond to sounds earlier or later than others. If you have concerns about your baby's hearing or development, it's always best to consult with your pediatrician.
