Asuu threatens new strike 3rd april 2019

It appears that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on a new strike starting from April 3rd, 2019. This is not the first time ASUU has threatened to go on strike, as they have been engaged in a long-standing dispute with the Nigerian government over various issues affecting the education sector.

Some of the key demands that ASUU has been pushing for include:

  1. Improved funding for universities: ASUU has been demanding that the government increase its funding for universities to enable them to provide better facilities and infrastructure for students.
  2. Implementation of the 2009 agreement: ASUU has been pushing for the implementation of the 2009 agreement it signed with the government, which includes the payment of outstanding salaries and allowances to its members.
  3. Renegotiation of the 2013 agreement: ASUU has also been demanding the renegotiation of the 2013 agreement it signed with the government, which includes the payment of salaries and allowances to its members.
  4. Improved working conditions: ASUU has been pushing for improved working conditions for its members, including better salaries, allowances, and benefits.

If the strike goes ahead, it could have significant implications for the education sector in Nigeria, including disruptions to academic activities, delays in the completion of academic programs, and potential losses for students and parents.

It's worth noting that the Nigerian government has been accused of not taking the demands of ASUU seriously, and has been accused of not providing adequate funding for the education sector. The government has also been accused of not implementing the agreements it has signed with ASUU, which has led to the repeated strikes.

It remains to be seen whether the strike will go ahead as planned, and what the implications will be for the education sector in Nigeria.
