ASUU Flays Neglect of LAUTECH, Warns Against Its Commercialization

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed deep concern over the neglect of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) by the government, warning against the commercialization of the institution.

In a statement issued by the ASUU National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, the union lamented that LAUTECH has been left to decay, with inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and lack of adequate staff to cater to the needs of students.

The statement reads: "LAUTECH has been neglected and abandoned by the government, with no meaningful investment in its infrastructure, staff development, and research. The university has been left to rot, with students and staff suffering as a result."

ASUU warned that the commercialization of LAUTECH would lead to the erosion of the institution's values and mission, and would ultimately compromise the quality of education provided to students.

"We cannot allow LAUTECH to be commercialized and turned into a profit-making venture. This would be a betrayal of the trust reposed in us by the founding fathers of the university, who envisioned a institution that would provide quality education to the people of Oyo State and beyond," the statement said.

The union called on the government to take immediate action to address the challenges facing LAUTECH, including the provision of adequate funding, infrastructure development, and staff development.

"We urge the government to take immediate action to address the challenges facing LAUTECH. We cannot continue to watch as this great institution is allowed to decay. We demand that the government takes concrete steps to revitalize LAUTECH and restore it to its former glory," the statement said.

ASUU also called on the government to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the union to address the issues affecting LAUTECH and other universities in the country.

"We are willing to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the government to address the issues affecting LAUTECH and other universities in the country. We believe that education is a fundamental right and that it is the responsibility of the government to provide quality education to all citizens," the statement said.

The union's warning against the commercialization of LAUTECH is a timely reminder of the importance of preserving the integrity and values of our institutions of higher learning.
