Apply for new zealand birth record print out
To apply for a printout of a New Zealand birth record, you can follow these steps:
Option 1: Online Application
- Go to the New Zealand Government's website: www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz
- Click on "Search and order certificates" and then select "Birth"
- Fill in the required information, including the name, date of birth, and parents' names
- Choose the type of certificate you want to order (e.g. full birth certificate, extract, or abstract)
- Pay the applicable fee using a credit or debit card
- Receive a digital copy of the birth record via email
Option 2: Postal Application
- Download and complete the application form (PDF) from the New Zealand Government's website: www.dia.govt.nz
- Fill in the required information, including the name, date of birth, and parents' names
- Attach a copy of your identification (e.g. driver's license, passport)
- Enclose the applicable fee (check or money order)
- Mail the application to:
- Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM) Historical Records
- PO Box 2194
- Wellington 6140
- Wait for the birth record to be processed and mailed to you
Fees
- Full birth certificate: NZD $33.50 (approximately USD $22)
- Extract or abstract: NZD $15.50 (approximately USD $10)
- Digital copy: NZD $15.50 (approximately USD $10)
Identification Requirements
To apply for a birth record, you will need to provide identification that proves your identity and relationship to the person whose birth record you are requesting. Acceptable forms of identification include:
- A valid New Zealand driver's license
- A valid New Zealand passport
- A birth certificate issued by the New Zealand Government
- A certificate of citizenship or residency issued by the New Zealand Government
Processing Time
The processing time for birth record applications is typically 10-15 working days. However, this may vary depending on the complexity of the request and the workload of the BDM Historical Records office.
Note
- The BDM Historical Records office only provides birth records for events that occurred in New Zealand.
- If the birth record you are requesting is more than 100 years old, you may need to provide additional information or documentation to verify your identity and relationship to the person whose birth record you are requesting.
- The BDM Historical Records office may refuse to provide a birth record if it is deemed that the request is frivolous or vexatious.
