Apc rejects new date for adamawa governorship supplementary poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the new date set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the Adamawa State governorship supplementary poll.

INEC had earlier scheduled the supplementary poll for March 28, but the APC has rejected the new date, citing security concerns and the need for more time to campaign.

In a statement issued by the APC's National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party said it would not participate in the supplementary poll on the new date.

"We have received the notice from INEC fixing March 28 for the supplementary election in Adamawa State. However, we regret to inform that the APC will not participate in the election on that date," the statement read.

The APC accused INEC of not providing adequate security for the election, and said that the party's candidates and supporters were being intimidated and harassed by security agents.

"We have consistently raised concerns about the security situation in Adamawa State, particularly the intimidation and harassment of our candidates and supporters by security agents. Unfortunately, our concerns have not been addressed," the statement said.

The APC also accused INEC of not providing enough time for the party to campaign and mobilize its supporters for the election.

"We need more time to campaign and mobilize our supporters for the election. The three-day notice given by INEC is not sufficient for us to effectively campaign and mobilize our supporters," the statement said.

The APC has called on INEC to reconsider the date for the supplementary poll and provide adequate security for the election.

"We urge INEC to reconsider the date for the supplementary election and provide adequate security for the election. We also urge our supporters to remain calm and peaceful, and to continue to support our candidates," the statement said.

The supplementary poll was ordered by INEC after the initial election was declared inconclusive due to the close margin of victory between the APC's candidate, Senator Muhammadu Umaru, and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umaru Fintiri.
