And in that day i will make a new covenant
A powerful and significant verse!
"And in that day I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah; not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I had no regard for them, says the Lord." - Jeremiah 31:31 (NKJV)
This verse is part of the prophecy of Jeremiah, where God promises to make a new covenant with His people, the Israelites. This new covenant is different from the one He made with them when He led them out of slavery in Egypt. The old covenant was based on the law and the commandments, but the new covenant is based on God's mercy, love, and forgiveness.
In this new covenant, God promises to write His laws on the hearts of His people, and to forgive their sins. He also promises to be their God, and they will be His people. This covenant is not based on human effort or obedience to the law, but on God's grace and mercy.
This prophecy is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who is the mediator of the new covenant (Hebrews 8:6-13, 9:15). Through faith in Jesus, people can have a personal relationship with God, and receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life.
The new covenant is also referred to in other parts of the Bible, such as Hebrews 8:8-12, 10:15-17, and 2 Corinthians 3:6-11. It is a beautiful and powerful promise of God's love and redemption, and is a source of hope and encouragement for believers today.
