ANAMBRA STATE RELIGIOUS GROUP CONDEMNS CHURCH KILLING
Awka, Anambra State - The Anambra State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of worshippers at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Ozubulu, Anambra State.
In a statement issued on behalf of the association, the President, Rev. Dr. Maduoma Obi, described the incident as "heinous, barbaric, and unacceptable" and called on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
"We are shocked and saddened by this senseless act of violence, which has left many innocent lives lost and many more injured," Rev. Obi said. "As a religious organization, we believe that places of worship are sacred and should be respected as such. The killing of worshippers in a church is a grave affront to the values of humanity and a gross violation of the fundamental rights of citizens."
The association also extended its condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the attack.
"We urge the authorities to leave no stone unturned in their investigation and to ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice," Rev. Obi added. "We also call on all Nigerians to remain calm and peaceful, and to continue to uphold the values of love, tolerance, and respect for one another."
The Anambra State CAN also appealed to the government to provide adequate security for all places of worship and to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are brought to book.
"We believe that the government has a responsibility to protect the lives and property of all citizens, including those who worship in our churches," Rev. Obi said. "We urge the government to take immediate action to address this issue and to ensure that our places of worship are safe and secure."
