Akwa ibom expresses willingness to pay new minimum wage

According to a report by Vanguard, the Akwa Ibom State Government has expressed its willingness to pay the new minimum wage of N30,000 to its workers.

The state Governor, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, made this known during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Uyo, the state capital.

The Governor was quoted as saying that the state government is committed to the welfare of its workers and is willing to pay the new minimum wage to ensure that they are motivated and productive.

"We are willing to pay the new minimum wage of N30,000 to our workers. We believe that our workers are the backbone of our economy and we want to ensure that they are well taken care of," the Governor said.

The Governor also commended the workers for their patience and understanding, saying that the state government is doing its best to meet their demands.

"We appreciate your patience and understanding. We know that you have been waiting for a long time for the new minimum wage and we are doing our best to ensure that it is implemented," the Governor said.

The NLC and TUC leaders, who were present at the meeting, commended the Governor for his willingness to pay the new minimum wage and promised to continue to work with the state government to ensure that the welfare of workers is protected.

"We appreciate the Governor's willingness to pay the new minimum wage. We will continue to work with him to ensure that the welfare of workers is protected," the NLC Chairman, Mr. Sunny James, said.

The meeting was attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Efreti, and the Head of Service, Dr. Glory Edet.
