Adding a new domain to office 365
Adding a new domain to Office 365 involves several steps, which I'll outline below. Please note that you'll need to have an Office 365 subscription and a domain name registered with a registrar.
Step 1: Verify your domain ownership
- Log in to the Office 365 admin center (https://admin.microsoft.com).
- Go to the "Domains" tab and click on "Add a domain".
- Enter your domain name and click "Next".
- You'll be prompted to verify your domain ownership. You can do this by:
- Adding a TXT record to your domain's DNS settings.
- Creating a CNAME record to a Microsoft-provided URL.
- Using a third-party verification service (e.g., GoDaddy).
Step 2: Set up DNS records
- Once you've verified your domain ownership, you'll need to set up the necessary DNS records. These records will help Office 365 route email and other services to your domain.
- You'll need to add the following records to your domain's DNS settings:
- MX records: These records point to Microsoft's mail servers. You'll need to add at least two MX records, with priorities of 10 and 20.
- TXT records: These records verify your domain ownership and help prevent spam.
- CNAME records: These records point to Microsoft's services, such as Outlook Web App and Exchange Online.
Step 3: Set up your domain settings
- Go back to the Office 365 admin center and click on "Domains" > "Your domain".
- Click on "Set up" next to "Domain settings".
- Enter your domain's name servers (NS records) and click "Save".
- You may also need to set up additional settings, such as:
- SPF (Sender Policy Framework) records: These records help prevent spam by specifying which IP addresses are authorized to send email on behalf of your domain.
- DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) records: These records help verify the authenticity of your domain's email.
Step 4: Update your domain's DNS settings
- Once you've set up your domain settings, you'll need to update your domain's DNS settings to point to Microsoft's servers.
- You can do this by updating your domain's name servers (NS records) to point to Microsoft's name servers.
Step 5: Test your domain
- Once you've updated your domain's DNS settings, you can test your domain by sending an email to your new domain.
- You can also use the Office 365 admin center to test your domain's settings and verify that everything is working correctly.
That's it! With these steps, you should be able to add a new domain to Office 365 and start using it with your subscription.
