Democracy Day Address by Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo
Fellow Nigerians,
Today, we mark another Democracy Day, a day to reflect on the progress we have made as a nation and the challenges that lie ahead. As we celebrate this milestone, I want to acknowledge the sacrifices of our founding fathers who fought for our independence and the struggles of our citizens who have worked tirelessly to build our nation.
As we mark this day, we are reminded of the importance of democracy and the values it represents. Democracy is not just a system of government, but a way of life that promotes freedom, equality, and justice for all. It is a system that allows us to choose our leaders, to hold them accountable, and to shape our own destiny.
In the past few years, we have made significant progress in deepening our democracy. We have strengthened our institutions, improved our electoral processes, and expanded access to education and healthcare. We have also taken steps to promote economic growth and development, and to reduce poverty and inequality.
However, we are not yet where we want to be. We still face many challenges, including corruption, insecurity, and economic inequality. We must continue to work together to address these challenges and to build a better future for ourselves and for generations to come.
As we move forward, we must also recognize the importance of unity and cohesion. We are a diverse nation, with many different cultures, languages, and religions. But we are also a nation that is bound together by our shared values and our commitment to democracy.
In the coming months and years, we will continue to work towards a more just and equitable society. We will continue to promote economic growth and development, and to reduce poverty and inequality. We will also continue to strengthen our institutions and to promote good governance.
But we cannot do it alone. We need the active participation and engagement of all Nigerians. We need your voices, your ideas, and your energy. We need your commitment to our democracy and to our nation.
So, as we mark this Democracy Day, I want to call on all Nigerians to come together and to work towards a brighter future. Let us celebrate our diversity and our differences, but let us also recognize our shared humanity and our commitment to democracy.
Thank you, and God bless Nigeria.
