President Buhari Appeals to Benue Leaders to Accommodate Countrymen
President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to leaders in Benue State to accommodate their countrymen, particularly those who have been displaced by the ongoing farmers-herders crisis in the state.
The President made the appeal during a meeting with traditional rulers and leaders from Benue State at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President urged the leaders to work together to find a lasting solution to the crisis, which has led to the displacement of thousands of people in the state.
The President said: "I appeal to our leaders in Benue State to accommodate their countrymen, particularly those who have been displaced by the ongoing farmers-herders crisis. We must work together to find a lasting solution to this crisis."
He also commiserated with the people of Benue State over the loss of lives and property, and assured them that the Federal Government was committed to providing support to the state to address the crisis.
The President also appealed to the people of Benue State to remain calm and peaceful, and to avoid taking the law into their hands.
The meeting was attended by the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, traditional rulers, and other leaders from the state.
The farmers-herders crisis in Benue State has led to the displacement of thousands of people, and has resulted in the loss of lives and property. The crisis has also led to tensions between the Federal Government and the state government, with the state government accusing the Federal Government of not doing enough to address the crisis.
