Academic staff union of kano varsity threaten fresh strike after nationwide strike

It appears that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Kano University has threatened to embark on a fresh strike after the nationwide strike that was recently called off.

According to reports, the union is dissatisfied with the government's failure to implement the agreements reached during the previous strike, which lasted for several months. The union is demanding better working conditions, improved salaries, and increased funding for universities.

The ASUU Kano University chapter has given the government a 14-day ultimatum to address their demands, failing which they will embark on a fresh strike. This development is likely to cause disruptions to academic activities in the university and may have a ripple effect on other universities in the country.

It is essential for the government to take immediate action to address the concerns of the ASUU and prevent a fresh strike. The government must prioritize the welfare of academic staff and ensure that universities receive adequate funding to provide quality education to students.

Here is the full text of the statement issued by the ASUU Kano University chapter:

"Following the suspension of the nationwide strike by ASUU, we, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kano University chapter, have been monitoring the situation and assessing the implementation of the agreements reached with the government.

Regrettably, we have observed that the government has not taken any concrete steps to implement the agreements, particularly the payment of outstanding salaries and allowances, and the provision of infrastructure and facilities in our universities.

In view of this, we have given the government a 14-day ultimatum to address our demands. Failure to do so, we will be left with no option than to embark on a fresh strike.

We urge the government to take immediate action to address our demands and prevent a fresh strike. We are committed to ensuring that our universities receive the necessary support to provide quality education to our students.

We will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary actions to protect the interests of our members and the university community."
