ABIA POLICE ARREST SERGEANT, OTHERS FOR ROBBERY
The Abia State Police Command has arrested a Sergeant and three others for alleged involvement in a robbery operation in the state.
The suspects, who were arrested on Tuesday, were identified as Sergeant Chukwuemeka Nwosu, 35, and three others, including a 25-year-old man, identified as Chinedu Nwosu, and two others, who are yet to be identified.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from a member of the public, who reported a robbery incident at a filling station in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State.
The police said that during the operation, the suspects allegedly robbed the filling station of cash and other valuables, and also attacked the station's attendant.
The police spokesperson in the state, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said that the suspects were arrested at a hotel in Aba, where they were hiding after the robbery.
Ogbonna said that the suspects would be charged to court for the alleged crime, adding that the police would continue to work hard to ensure that the state was safe for all.
The police also seized a Toyota Camry car, a motorcycle, and other items from the suspects, who are currently being detained at the police headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital.
The arrest of the sergeant and others has sparked outrage among residents of the state, who are calling for the police to take stern action against the suspects.
"This is a clear case of police corruption and we demand that the police take immediate action against the sergeant and others involved," said a resident of Aba.
The police have promised to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against the suspects.
