ABCOA (American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion) New Admission Requirements:
To become a certified Cardiovascular Perfusionist (RCP), you need to meet the eligibility criteria set by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCOA). Here are the new admission requirements:
Education:
- Earn an Associate's degree in Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology or a related field from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
- Complete a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical experience in a cardiovascular perfusion laboratory.
Examination:
- Pass the Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) examination administered by the ABCOA.
Clinical Experience:
- Complete a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical experience in a cardiovascular perfusion laboratory under the supervision of a certified perfusionist.
- The clinical experience should include a minimum of 1,000 hours in a cardiovascular surgery setting and 500 hours in an intensive care unit (ICU) or coronary care unit (CCU).
Other Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Complete a background check and provide proof of professional liability insurance.
Certification Maintenance:
- Complete 30 hours of continuing education every 3 years to maintain certification.
- Pay annual certification fees to the ABCOA.
