The New York truck attack, also known as the 2017 New York City truck attack, occurred on October 31, 2017, in Lower Manhattan, New York City. On that day, a man named Sayfullo Saipov, a 29-year-old Uzbekistan-born immigrant, drove a rented pickup truck onto a bike path along the West Side of Manhattan, striking and killing eight people and injuring 12 others.
The attack began at around 3:00 p.m. when Saipov, who was driving a rented Home Depot pickup truck, entered the bike path on West Street, near the World Trade Center. He then drove southbound on the path, striking a school bus and several pedestrians and cyclists. The truck continued for about a mile before crashing into a school bus, which was carrying students from a nearby school.
Eight people were killed in the attack, including:

Saipov was shot and injured by police after he exited the truck and brandished a paintball gun and a pellet gun. He was taken into custody and later charged with providing material support to a terrorist organization and committing violence and destruction of property.
The attack was claimed by the Islamic State (ISIS) and was described as a "lone-wolf" attack, meaning that it was carried out by a single individual without any direct support from the terrorist organization.
