50 pound note new and old
The £50 note!
Here are the designs for the new and old £50 notes:
Old Design (2003-2021)
The old £50 note features a portrait of Sir Christopher Wren, a renowned English architect, on the obverse (front side). The reverse (back side) features a depiction of the Royal Greenwich Observatory, which was founded by King Charles II in 1675.
New Design (2021-present)
The new £50 note features a portrait of Alan Turing, a British mathematician, computer scientist, and logician, on the obverse. Turing is widely considered the father of computer science and made significant contributions to the development of computer science, artificial intelligence, and cryptography.
The reverse of the new £50 note features a depiction of the Bombe, a machine that was used to decipher German codes during World War II. The design also includes a pattern of mathematical and scientific symbols, as well as a quote from Turing: "This is only a foretaste of what is to come, and only the shadow of what is going to be."
The new £50 note is made of polymer, a more durable and secure material than the paper used in the old design. The note also features advanced security features, including a hologram, a foil strip, and a see-through window.
