Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson has warned politicians against the killing of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during and after the 2019 general election.
Dickson gave this warning during the closing ceremony of the 2018 Batch “C” stream “2” NYSC orientation camp on Wednesday.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, Dickson called on all security agencies and political class to prioritise the security of corps’ members against electoral violence adding those who jeopardize their safety and well-being should be dealt with in line with the laws of the country.
Describing corps’ members as very important citizens, the governor announced a 100 per cent increase in their monthly allowance.
He urged the corps members to be law abiding and take their duties seriously and assured them of his administration’s commitment to making their service year a pleasantly memorable experience.
Dickson also restated his call on the Presidency to expedite the signing into law of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill as it would go a long way to improving the card reader system and other challenges confronting the country’s electoral process.
