2016 budget defence efcc asks for more funding

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has requested for more funding in the 2016 budget to enable it to effectively carry out its mandate of fighting corruption in Nigeria.

According to a report by the Punch, the EFCC has requested for a total of N15.6 billion in the 2016 budget, which is an increase of N2.6 billion from the N13 billion it received in the 2015 budget.

The EFCC said that the additional funding would be used to enhance its operations, including the prosecution of corruption cases, the investigation of financial crimes, and the recovery of stolen assets.

The commission also requested for the establishment of a special task force to tackle corruption in the oil and gas sector, as well as the creation of a special unit to investigate and prosecute cases of corruption in the public sector.

The EFCC also requested for the provision of additional vehicles, communication gadgets, and other equipment to enhance its operations.

The commission's request for more funding comes at a time when the Nigerian government is facing a number of challenges, including a decline in oil prices and a shortage of foreign exchange.

However, the EFCC has said that it is committed to fighting corruption and recovering stolen assets, and that it will continue to work with other agencies to achieve this goal.

It is worth noting that the EFCC has been criticized in the past for its handling of corruption cases, and there have been concerns about the commission's ability to effectively investigate and prosecute corruption cases.

Despite these challenges, the EFCC remains a key agency in the fight against corruption in Nigeria, and its request for more funding is likely to be closely watched by the government and the public.
