cor 2 good news bible
Here is 1 Corinthians 2 from the Good News Bible:
Corinthians 2
Paul's Message is Not from Human Wisdom
When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom. I did not come with persuasive words of human wisdom. I came with a demonstration of God's power and with the Holy Spirit's help.
For I decided that while I was with you, I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
I came to you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.
My message and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power.
The Wisdom of God
We do not speak of the wisdom of this world or of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God's wisdom, which is a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.
None of the rulers of this world knew this wisdom, for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
But as it is written: "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived" - God has prepared for those who love him.
But to us God has revealed these things by his Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God's plans.
Who knows a person's thoughts except the person's own spirit within them? In the same way, no one knows God's thoughts except the Spirit of God.
We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, and we know that the Spirit of God lives in us.
The Mind of Christ
And we have received God's glory, which is to be seen with the eyes of the heart. The Spirit tells us about God, and together with our inner self we cry, "Abba, Father!"
So then, we are not like those who are influenced by the world or by human wisdom, but by the Spirit, and we have the Spirit within us.
We also call out to God, "Abba, Father!" because of his Son, Jesus Christ.
For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that one body, though many, make up the whole body, so it is with Christ.
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free, and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
For the body does not consist of one part but of many.
If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts share its honor.
Then you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
If you were to boast, you should boast about the Lord. For it is not you who live, but Christ who lives in you.
In the same way, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
Do not be concerned about things that will do you no good. Do not be like the world, which is concerned about things that will do it no good.
For the world is like the sand on the seashore, and the world's wisdom is like the sand that is blown away by the wind.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
