Temilade Openiyi popularly known as Tems was born in Lagos State on 11 June 1995, to a British-Nigerian father and a Nigerian mother. Shortly after her birth, the whole family relocated to the United States and her parents divorced five years later.
Tems relocated with her mother and brother after the divorce after which she attended Dowen College. She proceeded to her tertiary institution at Monash South Africa where she studied Economics.
