A series of unprecedented herdsmen attacks in Benue, Taraba and Zamfara states have claimed the lives of at least 75 people in the fresh and deadliest violence.
In multiple attacks on communities in Logo and Ukum local government areas of Benue State, no fewer than 40 people were brutally killed.
“This is a terrible ordeal that again assails us,” a Benue state official told Per Second News on Thursday night. “We know where it comes from, who these criminals are, who these terrorists are.”
Also, At least 30 people were slaughtered at Jandeikyula village in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, despite the presence of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, who is currently on a three-day visit to the state.
The worst bloodshed was in Zamfara state, when the calamitous bandits attacked Anka Local Government Area killing several people.
In a span of two weeks, armed bandits had attacked Bawan Daji, Kuru-kuru and Jarkuka villages of Anka local government area in Zamfara state killing over 30 people.
On the Wednesday attack of Kuru-kuru village, Sadi Musa, a witness, said scores of people were killed at the mining site on Wednesday evening which forced the miners to flee for safety.
Musa said when residents from the nearby Jarkuka came later to join the Kuru-kuru survivors in burying the dead, the gunmen attacked again, and killed more people.
Confirming the incident, Mohammed Shehu, police public relations officer (PPRO) in the state, said, “we are aware of the attack but I cannot give you details now until my commissioner is fully briefed’’.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday while receiving the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, in London, had the killings in some parts of Nigeria would soon come to an end as his administration was finding solutions to them.
However, the response of the Federal Government to savage the disastrous is below the expectations of Nigerians as many took to Twitter to condemn the nonchalance of the government about the security of the nation.
In his tweet, Nafiu T said, “20 killed in Zamfara state!! A serious nation that value life could have been thrown into mourning. Here we are with charlatan leaders and their mob of deplorable propagandists trying to deflect the attention of the nation by lying with a self reported drop in inflation rate.”
Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central also tweeted, “Kaduna state is as unsafe as Benue, Zamfara and Taraba states. Birnin Gwari bothering Zamfara and Niger state is controlled by heavily armed bandits or Herdsmen who are killing both soldiers and civilians. Kidnaping & killing is a daily occurrence. Anything short of this is a lie.”

Yesterday, 53 people were killed in Taraba, Benue and Zamfara. The worth of human lives in Nigeria has been so devalued under Buhari. Was Buhari was elected to reduce our population. Is that the change we voted for? Can we survive this beyond 2019? Or do we want to live in peace?

PMB has no accuse, arms proliferation and movement across the Sahel following the fall of Gaddafi was open source knowledge, weapons seized from bandits in zamfara had AK variants associate with Libya, he had the security briefing and didn't do much to mob out these arms

It is preposterous that Buhari's govt is always quick to react when lives are lost in other climes but is silent when Nigerians are slaughtered in Benue, Plateau, Zamfara, etc
This govt is evil.
