Super Eagles slugging it out with the Three Lions of England is a good opportunity to test Nigeria’s readiness for this year’s World cup,Gernot Rohr has said.
The match will be only the third between both countries at senior level, and will serve as the Super Eagles’ final preparatory game for the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.
His reaction follows England’s confirmation of the friendly clash on Wednesday.
“IT’S OFFICIAL!@England will warm up for the @FIFAWorldCup in Russia with a #Wembley friendly against @theNFF on Saturday 2 June 2018, ” the England team wrote on their official Twitter handle.
Rohr believes in the level of competition a game against Gareth Southgate’s side would afford his Super Eagles team, ahead of the Russia 2018 World Cup.
“This is good news for myself and the entire team,” Rohr told the NFF website.
“England is a very strong team presently and I believe they will give us a very good match,” he continued.
“We will be able to test our readiness for the World Cup when we meet the Three Lions at Wembley.”
Nigeria will face Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D of the global showpiece, while England – whom they will be meeting at senior level for the third time – will have to negotiate with Belgium, Panama and Tunisia in Group G.
