The Federal Polytechnic Idah in Kogi State is shut down due to students’ violent protest over the death of their colleague, Gabriel Adiku by unknown persons.
The institution’s Deputy Registrar in charge of academics, Mr D. I. S. Unwuchol who announced this, said it was the decision of the governing council to have the school closed considering the danger such protest could have on lives and property.
Official statement from the school authorities confirmed that the deceased, Adiku, a Higher National Diploma student, was attacked while returning to his hostel after school hours.
“The victim was stabbed several times and left in a pool of his blood. Students later rushed him to the school clinic for treatment where he died,” Unwuchol confirmed.
The incident however led to students’ protest, leading to the destruction of the clinic and later mandated the school management to order for its closure. The students held that Adiku would have survived had the clinic been equipped with basic medical necessities.
The official statement also declared August 6 2017 for the reopening of the school.
