National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the Ondo State Government to reconsider payment of state allowance to corps members serving in the state.

Mrs. Grace Akpabio, the NYSC Coordinator in the state made this request at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2018 Batch A stream one corps members at Ikare Akoko orientation camp.

She explained that it was a statutory responsibility of the state governments, departments and agencies to pay their corps members some monthly allowances for their transport and accommodation.

Declaring the camp open, Governor Akeredolu represented by the commissioner for Sport and Youth Development, Mr. Saka Ogunleye gave assurance that the government would look into the state allowance for corps members.

Ogunleye also assured the corps members of a conducive environment in the state during their service year.

A representative of the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Nelson Adeyanju administered the oath of allegiance to the corps members at the event.

It was learnt that corps members serving in Ondo state were last paid state allowance in 2011.
