Professor Charles Uwakwe the Registrar of National Examination Council (NECO) has been suspended.
He was suspended due to an alleged fraud of financial mismanagement and abuse of office.
The registrar was suspended alongside two other officials who are in charge of finance and procurement respectively in the council.
At the time of filing this report, no official reason was given for the sudden suspension of the registrar.
Rumours making the round has it that three officials of the exam body have also been sacked.
However, a source close to the council gave a clear assessment of the incident that the three officials were not sacked but suspended.
The source said that the suspension came about due to an award of N25billion contract without the knowledge of either the Federal ministry of education or the governing Board of the council.
The source said; “I can tell you that nobody was sacked but there was a suspension pending an investigation of certain alleged misdeeds, which details have not been made public”.
It was also learnt that the Registrar had embarked on the recruitment of the staff without the knowledge of the appropriate authorities.
According to the source, the letter suspending the council officials emanated from the parent ministry.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Abubakar Gana who is the most senior Director in the Council has been directed to take over as the acting Registrar.
