Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwatope Savage Balogun popularly known by her stage name Tiwa Savage has emerged the 2018 Best African Act at the MTV European Music Awards.
The 2018 MTV EMA was aired live from Bilbao Exhibition Centre, Spain on Sunday with several music stars across the world.
The singer bagged the award after beating fellow Nigerian, Davido, and other African acts as she becomes the first Nigerian female artist to win the MTV Europe award.
The Nigerian singers were nominated alongside Nyashinski (Kenya) and Shekinah (South Africa), Distruction Boyz (South Africa), and Fally Ipupa (DRC).
Reacting to her win at the 2018 MTV EMAs, Savage dedicated the feat to African women, adding that “this is just the beginning”.
The ‘Lova Lova’ singer said she is happy to be a source of motivation to “some little girl” who is aspiring to be like her.
“Almighty God, you ARE so faithful. My savage soldiers, you did this for us. You’ve stuck with me through the roller coasters, thank you,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I’ve been through a lot but I’ve kept my head up and weathered the storm because I know some little girl somewhere is dreaming like I did,” she added.
American artiste, Camila Cabello, was the most nominated artist with nods in six categories and she took home four awards winning “Best Song,” “Best Artist,” “Best Video,” and “Best U.S. Act” in a show that featured a stellar performance from Janet Jackson.
