Arrest has been made of two men at Akwanga, Nasarawa State over the death of a soldier, Ayuba Ali, by the Nasarawa State Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, Kennedy Idirisu, confirmed the arrest to newsmen in Lafia.
According to Idirisu, the victim, who was en passing from Maiduguri, allegedly hit a street hawker at Agwan Affi area of the town while riding on a motorbike.
According to the information gathered by the police, Idrisu said that the soldier, who was not on uniform, tried to pacify the offended hawker and before he knew what was going on, a mob in sympathy with the hit hawker beat the soldier to a coma.
Unfortunately, as Idris recounted, the soldier did not survive the attack. He died at the hospital.
The police command however said that investigation had begun towards the arrest of all the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
A witness, John Abimiku by name, told newsmen that the area was at the moment deserted out of fear of reprisal.
“As I speak with you now, about four military trucks are stationed in the area and soldiers are picking up any youth on sight,” Mr. Abimiku said.
