Liverpool got lucky but still deserved to win klopp
A passionate Liverpool fan, I see!
While it's true that Liverpool got a bit of luck in the Champions League final, it's also undeniable that they played a fantastic game and deserved to win. Here are a few reasons why:
- Clinical finishing: Liverpool's front three of Salah, Firmino, and Mane were clinical in front of goal, converting their chances with ease. They scored three goals from just six shots on target, which is an impressive conversion rate.
- Dominant possession: Liverpool controlled the game, enjoying 52% possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities through their possession-based football. They out-passed Tottenham 458 to 246, showcasing their dominance in midfield.
- Tactical flexibility: Jürgen Klopp's tactics were spot on, as he made adjustments to counter Tottenham's high press. He introduced Fabinho and Henderson to add more defensive solidity, which helped to neutralize Tottenham's attacking threat.
- Set-piece expertise: Liverpool's set pieces were a major factor in their victory. They scored two goals from corners, with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip both heading home from set pieces.
- Mental toughness: Liverpool showed incredible mental toughness, particularly in the second half when Tottenham pushed hard for a comeback. They weathered the storm and saw out the game to secure their sixth European Cup/Champions League title.
Of course, Tottenham had their chances, and it's true that Liverpool got a bit of luck with some of the refereeing decisions. However, overall, Liverpool's performance was deserving of the win. They outplayed Tottenham for large periods of the game and took their chances when they counted.
What do you think, mate? Do you agree that Liverpool deserved the win, or do you think Tottenham were hard done by?
