When you enrol at UniSA, UniSA will send you an email with your username and password. Your UniSA username is a computer generated for student identification purposes. Your student number consists of the first 3 letters of your family name, plus the initials of your first and second name plus the code 01p. The OUA Office only requires one letter from any given name – a common example is Smith: S-01P.

For example: if your name was Mary Anne Leigh, your username might be leima01p

All unisa default passwords contain at least 8 characters; with the first four letters from your family name (in lower case) and the day and month of your birth as seen in this example (eg smit2305).

Insert the letter x, for all family names of less than 4 letters, (eg ngxx for Ng).

Students that have a University of South Africa (UniSA) student ID automatically get an OUA account, but if you don’t have a second name, or didn’t provide it when you registered with OUA, the letter ‘y’ is used in your username instead.

Example:

  • if your name was Mary Leigh, your username might be leimy01p
  • if your birthday was 3 May, your password would be leig0305

Your username will normally be the same as your name, so if your last name has less than 3 letters, the letter ‘y’ is used in your username and the letter ‘x’ is used in your password.
