In the disagreement over the Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programs, the Germany foreign minister has summoned North Korea for a one-on-one discussion.
An election was held by the officials in Germany on Sunday, and they have been unbending about finding a tactful solution. Chancellor Angela Merkel has found the dialogue that made Iran to restrain its nuclear program as a possible model.
The Monday’s edition of the Bild daily had comments by the Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel that the world should wait for sanctions to bite, but “visions and courageous steps” also are needed.
He said “a security guarantee other than the nuclear bomb” is required for North Korea and pointed to Cold War detente as an example. He also added that the U.S., China and Russia should participate in the dialogue with North Korea.
