The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended four suspected kidnappers in the Koko-Basse Local Government Area of the state.
Police operatives also recovered the sum of N800,000 the suspects allegedly collected from the families of their victims.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mustapha Suleiman, told journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday that the suspects were apprehended by a police patrol team on Koko-Basse-Fakai Road after the gang completed their operation.
“The suspects are Mohammadu Mani, Muhammadu Muhammad, Umar Mohammadu and Abdulkarim Isiya, who were caught while heading for Zuru Local Government Area.
“All the ransom they had collected from the families of their victims were retrieved and they would be charged to court for proper prosecution,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria learnt that the suspects had kidnapped the leader of a Fulani community in Koko-Basse, Alhaji Aliyu Dikko, and collected N300,000 out of the N3m ransom they demanded from his family.
The suspects also allegedly collected N500,000 from the family of another victim, whose identity could not be ascertained, before they were arrested by the police.
