Eight passengers have been rescued from a 14-seater Hiace bus that plunged into a river in the Okogbe-Mbiama end of the East-West Road in the Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State.
It was reported that the driver was out of control and that was why the bus skidded off a flooded bridge and then landed into the river. Divers are still searching for more people as the bus has been taken to the Police Station.
A witness said, “The 14-seater bus was fully loaded. It plunged into the river along the East-West Road. My heart is broken. This accident was caused by the flood.”
The state Police PRO, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, said the 8 people rescued have been rushed too the hospital for treatment and the search for other passengers is still on.
Omoni further said that the bus was coming from Port Harcourt to Yenogoa when the accident happened. “Eight persons have been rescued. The bus was travelling from Port Harcourt to Yenagoa. The search is still on to know if there are other passengers left in the river,” he added.
