Cancer awareness organisation, Niola Cancer Care Foundation, has reiterated the poor response of Nigerians, including cancer stakeholders, to colorectal cancer.
The information was disclosed in a statement signed by the Executive Director of the Foundation, Eniola Salu Akintunde.
According to Akintunde, the response to the recent survey conducted by Niola Cancer Care Foundation was an indication of lack of interest or poor awareness on colorectal cancer to the general population, even among the cancer stakeholders, despite the importance and the fact that it is a leading cause of cancer death.
She noted that for more than a month, the foundation in collaboration with BVGH undertook a survey to understand the baseline assessment on colorectal cancer.
She stated that less than 100 persons responded despite wide posting of the survey links to various platforms for reaching dedicated cancer stakeholders of more than 1,000 from various WhatsApp groups and social media outlets.
Akintunde added that the foundation wished that stakeholders will prioritise colorectal cancer considering its importance in the world of cancer
