Despite the economic realities most youths are faced with, the alumni 2005 set of the mission school, Evangel College, Okokomaiko recently donated books worth hundreds of thousands of naira to the school library.
This occasion also gave seasoned educationists the opportunity to diagnose and address the current problems afflicting education in the country.
The Principal, Evangel College, Mrs Mercy Okorie, represented by the Vice Principal, Mr Egwu Moses, lamented the sorry state of education in the country. She said lack of motivation for teachers, decayed infrastructure, and moral decadence among students, have contributed to the fallen standard of education in Nigeria.
She added; “The challenge of the educational system in the country is numerous. Stakeholders, parents and students are involved. Teachers who are everybody’s mentors in the society are not motivated through proper welfare. Salaries are not paid as when due and promotions do not come as expected.
