The Akwa Ibom state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has pledged to complete the Ibom Deep seaport project before the May 29 terminal date of his administration.
He said the emergence of global operator, Bolloré-PowerChina Consortium, as the preferred bidder for the project located in the Mbo Local Government Area of the state, has brightened its prospect and realisation.
Speaking through the Commissioner of Special Duties and Aviation Development, Mr. Akan Okon, in Uyo, on Tuesday, Emmanuel appreciated all those involved in the realisation of the project for their commitment and support.
He said the multi-million dollar project would drive the wheels of the economic development of the state and Nigeria when completed and create employment to teeming unemployed youths in the country.
He said, “I want to assure all Akwa Ibomites that the Ibom deep seaport project is realisable, in fact, we are committed to ensuring that the project is completed before May, 29 next year. We are working towards this already and we remain committed to it.
“The emergence of the Bolloré–PowerChina Consortium is a happy development for us and I want to appreciate all the Federal Government agencies for their support and cooperation so far.”
He stated that the next stage would involve negotiation with the preferred bidder which would be conducted in compliance with all extant rules.
