Famous Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been honoured with the Special Distinction for Thought Leadership Award by the Global Hope Coalition (GHC).
Adichie was honoured with the distinguished award during the GHC’s 2018 annual awards dinner in New York City.
According to the organizers, the award-winning writer was recognized for the impact of her work in shaping global conversations bordering on feminism, race, and North/South relations.
The dinner served as a special tribute to leaders and organization that have reacted with compassion and dignity to refugee crises in different parts of the world.
Her award was presented by award-winning producer and philanthropist Mrs Francine LeFrak, with CNN Lead Political Anchor, Wolf Blitzer as host.
Special distinctions for leadership were presented to President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger, Beji Caid Essebsi, President of Tunisia (represented by Khemaies Jhinaoui, minister of foreign affairs), Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and Alexis Tsipras, Prime Minister of Greece.
Other individual awards were presented to a member of the Lebanese Parliament, Fouad Makhzoumi, the International Rescue Committee/Sesame Workshop, and leading Turkish philanthropist, Ms Demet Sabancı Çetindoğan.
