Akwa Ibom state on Wednesday flagged off its state-owned airline called Ibom Air but the airline won’t be starting commercial services immediately.

Present at the launch ceremony Uyo, the state capital, were big wigs in the society including the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

According to the state government, the airline, the first by any Nigerian state will resume operations with three aeroplanes; two of which have been delivered and were displayed at the ceremony, and has 300 direct staff strength.

Planespotter.net however lists just one plane for the new airline, a 7.7-year-old Bombardier CRJ-900, which it says is due to be delivered on January 23.
