No fewer than 12 persons were reportedly killed in another cult-related clash in three different communities of Rivers State on Monday, April 8, 2019.

It was gathered that the incident occurred a few hours after a rival gang war claimed eight persons in Mgbuodohia Community, Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Sunday.

Reports also had it that a yet to be ascertained number of persons were killed in Rumuche and Rumuohia communities in Emohua local government area when gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded the two communities on Sunday night killing people and burning houses.

Reacting to the news the Police Public Relation Officer, PRO in the state Omoni Nnamdi said the command has deployed a tactical team to the community Rumuolumeni community in Obio/Akpor local government area to forestall a reprisal attack.

Omoni stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Rumuolumeni Divisional headquarters, has been given a marching order to fish out the suspected cult gangs and urged residents of the area to go back home, assuring them of their safety.

Speaking on the incident in the community, Chairman, Rumuolumeni Community Development Committee, Sunny Odum, described the invasion of the community by members of a cult group as strange, adding that the killing of eight persons was unfortunate.

Odum called on residents of the community not to be afraid, promising that security operatives would soon apprehend those behind the dastardly act.

He urged the residents to go about their normal business adding that measures had been in place to forestall any recurrence of the incident.
