Nigeria passes northeast development commission bill

I think there may be some confusion here. Nigeria has not passed a "Northeast Development Commission Bill". However, there is a similar initiative called the "North East Development Commission (NEDC)" which was established in 2017 by the Nigerian government to address the humanitarian and developmental challenges in the North East region of the country.

The North East Development Commission was established by the North East Development Commission (Establishment, etc.) Act 2017, which was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on July 26, 2017. The commission is responsible for coordinating the development efforts in the North East region, which has been affected by insurgency and humanitarian crises.

The commission's mandate includes:

  1. Coordinating the development efforts in the North East region
  2. Identifying and addressing the root causes of the humanitarian crises in the region
  3. Providing humanitarian assistance to affected persons
  4. Promoting economic development and job creation in the region
  5. Ensuring the rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure and public facilities in the region

The North East Development Commission is headed by a chairman, who is appointed by the President, and has a governing board comprising representatives from the federal government, state governments, and other stakeholders.

I hope this clears up any confusion. Let me know if you have any further questions!
