Nigerian players were up in action Thursday in a friendly game which ended in a 3-0 victory against fellow West African country, Togo in Paris.
Goals from Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho were fundamental to the Eagles win in their second preparatory match in advance of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, which they will play at Uyo against visitors, the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on June 10.
The first friendly match played in Ajaccio against Corsica ended in a lone-goal tie on May 26.
National handler, Gernot Rohr fielded Ifeanyi Ubah goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa. Others were Cyprus-based Abdullahi Shehu; Elderson Echiejile was captain of the team; William Troost-Ekong and Chidozie Awaziem held the defense line. The midfielders were Portugal-based Mikel Agu, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, Feirense’s Oghenekaro Etebo and Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi.
The Super Eagles outplayed the Togolese for most of the duration while also wasting many scoring chances.
The Nigerian side took the lead in the 3rd minute after Musa’s goal scored from over 35 yards, made possible by a spillover from Iwobi’s cross to beat Alassan. Much pressure on the Togolese by the Eagles necessitated the second goal in the 17th minute.
In the 27th minute, Etebo penetrated the Togolese defence making way for Iheanacho’s goal which consummated the 3-0 victory.
Changes made by Rohr in the second 45 minutes was to respond to the physical attempt by the Togolese side to change the situation in their favour but failed. Victor Osimhen, Tyronne Ebuehi, Stephen Odey, Sikiru Olatunbosun, Henry Onyekuru, Uche Agbo, Dele Almpasu and Ibrahim Alhassan completed the list and came in the second.
