The Meiran Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Wasiu Onibudo, has been remanded in prison custody by an Ebute-metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, over alleged conspiracy and murder.
Making the order consequent upon an application for remand, initiated by counsel to the police, Godwin Osuyi and Daniel Ighodalo, of the Legal Department of Lagos State Police Command, Panti-Yaba, the court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku, while dismissing the objection raised by counsel to the accused, Spourgeon Ataene, declared that the accused should remain in custody for 30 days, pending the Directorate of Public Prosecution’s (DPP’s) advice on the matter.
Further hearing on the matter has been adjourned till February 29.
It would be recalled that Osuyi had notified the court that the application was filed pursuant to section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice of Lagos state, 2011.
He had also informed the court that the accused conspired with others, now at large, and killed one Taiwo Ogunlaja, by stabbing him severally on the body.
Osuyi also told the court that the NURTW chairman committed the alleged offence during a meeting of the NURTW which took place on December 3, 2015, at the union’s headquarters situated at 365, Abeokuta Expressway, Abule-egba, Lagos.
